An evocative and atmospheric prospect of Venice from the Lagoon, various shipping craft on the water in foreground. Wilfred Ball was a London etcher and watercolourist, landscape and marine painter. He was born and lived in Putney where he etched romantic landscapes of English and Venetian themes in the manner of Whistler; he exhibited paintings and etchings at the RA from 1877 to 1903.
