The Marekerk is a Protestant church in Leiden, located at the Lange Mare and the Oude Vest canal. The church can be easily seen from the Oude Vest and the Burcht van Leiden by its round dome.
Arent van ´s Gravesande, the town’s architect, designed the church in 1639. It was the first church to be built in Leiden after the Reformation; and is an example of Dutch classicism. The building was first used in 1650, and is still used twice every Sunday by the members of the parish.
