Rinder writes, "The remains of Saint Laumer, a pious anchorite who died at Chartres in the sixth century, were finally brought to Blois, where in 1138 the Benedictine monks began building this church to receive the relics. The church was desecrated during the Terror, and when reconsecrated received the name of St. Nicolas, from a parish annexed to the monastery in 1302."
