The Feathered Hat. c.1912. Drypoint.10 7/8 x 7 3/4. A rich impression printed with drypoint burr on cream paper with full margins. Unsigned. The elegant hat is decorated with tulle and peacock feathers. The print is housed in a burled wood frame with a gold beaded lip. $275.
The Plumed Hat. c.1912. Drypoint. 10 7/8 x 7 7/8. A rich impression printed with drypoint burr on cream paper with full margins. Extensive pencil additions. Unsigned. The brimmed hat is decorated with plumes at the back. The print is housed in a black wood frame with a silver beaded lip. $275. The compositions are reminiscent of Helleu's elegant ladies.
Born in Lambeth, Garratt was a portrait painter and engraver who enjoyed considerable success and was commissioned to paint many of the leading people of his time including Rodin. He studied at the City of London School and exhibited from 1899-1919. During the 1920's, he spent several years in New York.
