Herbert Johnson Harvey was a landscape and portrait painter as well as a metal worker, who exhibited at the Royal Academy. During the 1920's he etched penetrating portrait studies, reminiscent of Old Master works. The sitter is the subject of another Harvey etching, The Nomad.
