Tortoise. c. 1910. Oban:5 x 14 (sheet 10 1/8 x 145/8). A fine impression printed with gauffrage in the tortoise's shell and in the flowers on mulberry paper with mica highlights. The tortoise is regarded as a symbol of good fortune. Unsigned. $175.
Kacho-e is the Japanese term for prints that depict birds and flowers. Such subjects have a long tradition in Chinese and Japanese painting.
