McCarron writes, "The lighted skyscraper on the horizon is the Chanin Building, which can also be seen in Glow of the City (No. 77) of 1929. The crossed wooden beams at center mid-ground are a motif employed earlier in Derricks at Night (No. 63) of 1927.
