The Foveran Burn runs through the parrish of Foveran, east Aberdeenshire, Scotlandand, and falls into the Ythan near the village of Newburgh.
Hardie writes, "The burn winds between two sunny meadows towards the right, where it passes into shadow under trees. In the foreground a girl is paddling, and a boy, half-hidden among bushes, watches her on the left."
