R.A. Walker writes, in the Print Collector's Quarterly, "In this two plates, Harley Street and Fitzroy Street we have indeed the soul of London....In both plates this shodow is consummately etched and the values of each are perfect. Indeed in etching of architecture in shadow he falls little, if any, short of Meryon and the French eighteenth century engravers. One can see detail in these sunless buidings and there is a cool, clean effect accomplished by very skilled biting and printing which is most satisfying" (page 141).
