Lynd Ward. 1905-1985.

The son of a Methodist preacher, Lynd Ward moved from Chicago to Massachusetts. He studied illustration and the graphic arts at Columbia University. After graduation in 1926, he studied wood engraving under Hans Alexander Mueller in Leipzig. Ward became known as a wood engraver and book illustrator.
