A rich impression with bright, fresh colors printed on watermarked Montval paper, on the full sheet with deckle edges. Signed in ink, numbered in pencil. Housed in a silk mat and a stunning 32 x 37-inch gold leaf frame. $17,500.
Rouault returned to theme of Autumn, and used it in a large lithograph and then this large aquatint. Automne is Rouault's tour-de-force and a secular stand-out in a printmaking oeuvre with a concentration on religious, spiritual and Biblical themes. It is among his most colorful, technically complex and largest prints, and the most impressive of his secular fine prints.
