Dudley Olcott was a banker, philanthropist, educator, and patron of art. The Olcotts were descended from Thomas Olcott, one of the first settlers of Hartford, Connecticut, in 1630. Dudley Olcott (1838-1919) was born in Albany, New York, and resided there during his lifetime. He succeeded his father as President of the Merchants and Farmers' Bank of Albany, and was a trustee of the Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York from 1880 to 1906. He was a trustee of the Metropolitan Trust Company.
